Model Programs (1)

Introduction

There are numerous programs that embrace the principles and practices of psychoeducation.  Here are some examples of programs that have proven themselves to be effective.

Positive Education Program (PEP), Cleveland, Ohio (USA)

The Positive Education Program (PEP) with a staff of over
600 people, serves inner city youth -- primarily minorities -- in
a variety of capacities. It provides early childhood programs, autism and special education programs, community and residential services, consultation and out-patient services to troubled and troubled children, youth, and their families.  It also provides training and consultation to mental health professionals, educators, schools and agencies.

.

The PEP Program is noteworthy because it is based upon the Re-EDucation philosophy espoused by Nicholas Hobb s, and because staff are trained in Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI).  Staff are "Teacher-Counselors," meaning they "understand that young people need trusting relationships with skilled, competent and caring adults in order to become fulfilled adults themselves."

For other schools and programs that have been designed around the principles and practices of Re-EDucation, visit the American Re-EDucation Association (AREA) web site.

If you are ever near Cleveland, visit the PEP Program! You will see psychoeducation in action!
